Field of Light

A couple of weekends ago I went to look at the Field of Light installation at the Holburne Museum in Bath. The installation was by Bruce Munro and was apparently inspired by the blooming of desert flowers after rain. I didn't really care what it was inspired by, I just thought it was absolutely stunning!

Thousands of glowing lights on stalks were scattered across the gardens of the Museum, like alien flowers.

They slowly changed colour from red to pink to orange to yellow to green to blue to purple to white and back again.

A rainbow of lights.

There were even lights in the cafe. It was a wonderful way of brightening up a cold, dark winter night.

Unfortunately the Field of Light has gone now, but the Holburne is still well worth a visit. I was very impressed by their controversial extension, it was quite beautiful. I still pine for the old cafe, which was housed in a tiny summerhouse in the garden, but I think the extension has actually added to, not detracted from, the original building.
