I had some of those glass prism window decorations which make little rainbows lying around. I used to have them up in my window at my old house, but there's not really anywhere to put them now I've moved-we have a combination of French windows, Georgian sash windows which can't have anything screwed into them, and a teeny tiny window which they wouldn't fit into. They were too pretty to stay packed in a box, and I've been wanting a big sparkly necklace for a while now, so I decided to turn them into one.
First I took off all the hooks from the top using pliers. I kept them as I think they might come in handy in for another project. Then I took out out all the links between the "jewels", as they were cheap wire and didn't look very nice close up.
I replaced the links with silver plated jump rings.
I wanted my necklace to have a longer drop in the middle, and smaller drops graduated along the length of the necklace, so I lay all the jewels out in my design.
I joined them together with silver chain and more jump rings, added a clasp, and voila!
A gorgeous sparkly necklace! I'm really pleased with this, now I just need a suitably princess-y outfit to go with it.
